The rainbow was never meant to represent just one thing.
It is the full visible spectrum. Everything at once. And the reason it became the symbol it became is because that is exactly what Pride represents: not one story, not one identity, not one way of being human, but all of them, side by side, unapologetically lit up.
Thee Fantasy Shoppe has been at Ridgewood and Madison in Daytona Beach for over 40 years. We have served every version of every person who has walked through that door. We have watched people come in nervous and leave confident.
That is what this store has always been. Pride month just gives us a reason to say it clearly.

A Voice We Have Been Carrying Since 2023
A few years ago, we sat down with Kirk T. DaVinci, Mr. DeLand Pride 2018 and special events coordinator for Support Volusia, the Volusia County Pride organization that oversees DeLand Pride, Daytona Pride, and Lake Helen Pride. Kirk has been part of the DeLand Pride executive committee since the year he won the pageant, and at the time of our conversation he was the only African American on that board. By the time we spoke, there were four.
We asked him what he wished people who were not actively in the community understood about Pride. His answer has stayed with us.
“Pride is not just for gay people. Pride is for anybody. You can take pride in anything. You can be proud to be Black. You can be proud to be heavyset. You can be proud to be skinny. You can be proud to wear glasses. You can be proud to have long hair. You can be proud of whatever. Pride month is for everyone.”

This Is 40 Years of Showing Up
Thee Fantasy Shoppe has been here long enough to have served people who now bring their partners, their friends, their adult children. The store has changed. The community has changed. The conversation around wellness and pleasure and identity has changed enormously.
What has not changed is that everyone who walks in here deserves to be treated like an adult. Without judgment. Without assumption. Without the feeling that they have to explain themselves before they can ask a question.
That is Pride, in the way Kirk described it. Pride in who you are. Pride in what you need. Pride in the work of figuring it out.
